BST Visit to HEU
Last week representatives from Brunei Shell Tankers were kind enough to come to the College to give a briefing to our students in our HEU Resource Room.
When they arrived at 1.30 pm, the Resource room was packed with our male students, mostly those taking Maths and Physics, showing much interest in what the officers and representatives from BST had to say.
On that day we learnt that the requirements to join BST under the Marine Cadet programme are
-Must be a Male, Bruneian Citizen.
-Must satisfy at least 120 UCAS points, i.e. minimum grade of ‘D’ and/or higher for A’ Level in numerical subjects such as Mathematics, Accounting and/or Physics.
-Must also satisfy the O’ Level minimum grades of at least ‘C’ and/or higher in English, Mathematics, Physics and/or Combined Science (with a Physical Science content).
Other than that, the students also learnt what life was like on a ship, what exactly did the job entail and how was the training and education like. More details can be found here or better yet, come visit us at HEU!
For the U6 leavers we have a couple of BST forms if you're interested, please see your counsellor to obtain one :)
ITB Career Exhibition and Dialogue
Today a few counsellors from the HEU brought a handful of lucky students to visit the career exhibition at ITB. Not only were we able to get updated information on the courses available at ITB, but we also had the chance to talk to the lecturers there and take a look at other job oppurtunities available here in Brunei.
Present at today's career exhibition were representatives from,
-BAG Network
-Baiduri Bank
-BLNG
-B-Mobile
-Brunei Times
-BSP
-Fire & Rescue Department
-DST
-Labour Department
-Ministry of Education Scholarship Unit
-Police Department
-Prison Department
-Royal Brunei Armed Forces
-Standard Chartered Bank
-TelBru
InsyaAllah the information that we were able to retrieve from today's visit will shortly be displayed in the HEU Resource Room so do come by and check it out!
Results are out!
Finally, after much anticipation and conjecture the O and A level results are FINALLY out! Congratulations to everybody, all the hard work that have been done must've paid off.
So now, you must be asking, what next?
For your information THE HIGHER EDUCATION UNIT WILL BE CLOSED FOR ONE WEEK due to admission consultation (29th January - 5th February). This was why we had the VISION project done last year in November (Remember when you returned Forms A, B, and C and we gave you your predicted grades?) Thus there is no need to panic. Use this time to do your RESEARCH and BRUSH UP your personal statement!
Your HEU counsellors will be available for consultation ONE week AFTER the release of results i.e. on the 5th of February.
In the mean time, this is what you should do,
1. UBD/UNISSA applications :
Application forms are available from UBD/UNISSA. You will be required to put down two referees on your application. You have the Principal’s permission to use his name as the first referee. For the second referee most students use one of their subject teachers, but you must ask the teacher concerned first before you use his or her name.
2. ITB applications :
Application forms are available from ITB. Please write down (in pencil)
3. SCHOLARSHIP application :
Application forms are available from the Scholarship Section at MOE. Included in the application is a 200 word mini essay (PLAN OF STUDY) where you explain why you should be given the scholarship (PLEASE ENSURE YOU KNOW THE CONTENT OF THE COURSE YOU ARE APPLYING).
NOTE : if you apply for scholarship for overseas study, you should also , at the same time, apply for a place in an overseas institution. Normally you will not have replies from UCAS or other applications before you submit your scholarship application, but you can update the scholarship section at a later date as offers are made.
4. UCAS
ALL Maktab Duli students who wish to apply for UCAS must go through MD HEU only. References will not be supplied to those who apply independently. Maktab Duli is registered on the UCAS and in order to access your application you must register first with HEU and obtain a buzzword (buzzword changes daily). Research on courses and universities should have been carried out or completed during VISION 2008 last year. However, if you need further assistance, please see you HEU Counsellors a week after the release of result.
5. PERSONAL STATEMENT:
Should have been checked by your HEU Counsellors BEFORE you submit it online. Before submitting your personal statement please make sure you have read the 2008 UCAS Online application Guidelines and have done your research on Universities and Courses for your application.
If you really are in dire need to see a counsellor anytime between 29th January to 4th February then you can come and see us in the Auditorium to make an appointment. However, we'd be able to serve you better after admissions therefore See you next week!
